Queen Anne is the best of all worlds. Whether you're looking for fun shops, a variety of restaurants, sporting events, the Pacific Science Center, Experience Music project, or just a nice quiet neighborhood to enjoy views of Downtown Seattle, Lake Union, or the Olympic Mountains, Queen Anne has it all.

Rising steeply 456 feet above Puget Sound, Queen Anne is the tallest of Seattle's legendary "seven hills" and was one of the last of the Seattle neighborhoods to be completely developed because of its steep slope. Named for a style of architecture popular in the 1880s, Queen Anne is dotted with a variety of house sizes that date back before post-WWII. Many bungalows have overgrown ferns covering the lots. There are also a lot of larger mansions and burgundy brick chalets clustered throughout Queen Anne.

Queen Anne residents enjoy many magnificent views from anywhere on the hill. Queen Anne's close proximity to downtown also provides a relatively short commute to either work or one of the city's many cultural and recreational centers.

The site of the 1962 World's Fair, the Seattle Center, located on Queen Anne's South side, is home to the Space Needle, the Experience Music Project Museum and Key Arena, home of the National Basketball Association Seattle SuperSonics.

Queen Anne Avenue North, a busy north-south road, bisects Queen Anne yet most people think of the areas North, South and at the top of Queen Anne to be where there are distinct differences. The area on the South side of Queen Anne is largely made up of restaurants, bars and shops that cater to people living in nearby apartments, as well as those coming in from outside the neighborhood for Sonics games and events at Seattle Center, such as the popular Bumbershoot Music Festival.

The shopping district at the very top of Queen Anne features upscale grocery stores, swank restaurants and businesses that cater to the affluent residents who live nearby. The North side of Queen Anne is a mixture of apartments, condos and single-family homes many of which are occupied by students attending Seattle Pacific University that borders this side of Queen Anne.

Seattle Pacific University, on the north side of Queen Anne Hill, started in 1891 as an elementary school with a goal to train missionaries. By 2001, it had grown to almost 3,500 students and offered accredited programs in education, theology, nursing, and engineering.

The proximity to Downtown Seattle and fabulous views make this a highly desirable place to live and homes rarely stay on the market long.

Median Prices: Homes $509,000; Condos $240,000
