The heart of Seattle's culture and commerce can be found Downtown. Here you'll find that both the working class and the wealthy are being drawn to Seattle to take advantage of the area's 500 odd restaurants, 15 theaters and performing venues, 7 museums, 77 art galleries and 1800 plus retailers - most within walking distance.

If Downtown is the heart, then the Pike Place Market could be considered Seattle's "soul." Known around the world for its abundant produce and flying fish (tossed to the cashier as soon as it's ordered), Pike Place market is a bustling marketplace featuring everything from local artists to flowers. Located between 1st and Western Avenues and Pike and Virginia Streets, and a short walk from downtown Seattle's retail and hotel district, the "Pike Street Hillclimb" connects it to the Seattle Aquarium and central waterfront via a system of stairs and elevators.

The waterfront activities have always been popular with both locals and visitors alike. The Piers feature a variety of shops and restaurants while the Washington State Ferries offer opportunities to go across Puget Sound and explore the nearby islands.

Several of Seattle's major cultural institutions also make up the Downtown. A few of these include the Seattle Art Museum at 1st Avenue and University Street, and the Seattle Symphony's Benaroya Hall at 3rd Avenue and University Street. Also, several downtown theaters have been revitalized during the 1990s.

While nearly 20% of the available housing is owner occupied, most properties are rentals.

Median Prices: Condos $292,273
