An eclectic and diverse urban mix, with a perpetual energy that runs round the clock, Capitol Hill is located east of Interstate 5, west of 23rd St., south of Interstate 520, and north of Union St.

It was named Capitol Hill because many thought it would make an excellent state capital for Washington with its wonderful view of Seattle from Volunteer Park and it's diverse representation of the area. Many of the original founders of Seattle lived in the opulent mansions atop Capitol Hill. Since then Capitol Hill has become an area with unique personality.

Capitol Hill is comprised of an interesting mix of people, from retired professionals to students attending one of the many colleges in the area: Seattle Central Community College, Cornish College of the Arts, and Seattle University. Capitol Hill is also a hot spot for creative and young artists, a nucleus for medical personnel working at the many hospitals nearby and is the hub to the Central District. Window shoppers enjoy the many unique stores along Broadway, which is the main street through the heart of Capitol Hill, offering unusual and specialty items, while food connoisseurs will find the restaurants on Capitol Hill offer a variety of ethnic foods and drink as well as an active nightlife.

Volunteer Park peaks out the hill with the building that was once the original Seattle Art Museum and a tower that has an extraordinary 360-degree view of the greater Puget Sound area. On a clear day, one can see the cascades ranging from Mt. Rainier to the south and Mt. Baker to the north with Lake Washington and the Eastside in the foreground. Towards the west, the picturesque and powerful Olympic Mountains engulf Queen Anne and the downtown area

Capitol Hill also has active church communities, with St. Mark's Cathedral, the largest Episcopalian congregation in the Pacific Northwest, and St. Joseph's Church, located in a historically Catholic neighborhood. It is also the center of Seattle's gay and alternative lifestyles.

With a high percentage of renters, this turn-of-the-century community is sought for its location, convenience and views.

Median Prices: Homes $512,750; Condos $221,750
