One of Seattle's oldest neighborhoods, Belltown (or Denny Regrade) is now the place to be in Seattle. Located just north of Pike Place Market, the Belltown neighborhood's boundaries are, roughly, from Elliott Bay east to Sixth Avenue, and north from Virginia Street to Denny Way.
What was once a rather uninteresting commercial and low-rent residential area, Belltown is now a cutting edge, trendy neighborhood that's home to many of the city's hottest nightclubs, rock venues, restaurants, pool halls, unique boutiques, coffee houses, art galleries, restaurants, as well as many craft unions and social service organizations. No longer a gritty, inner-city neighborhood, Belltown has become an urban oasis - complete with P-patch garden and a spectacular 8.5 acre Olympic Sculpture Park due to open in 2006.
During the hi-tech boom of the late 1990's, Belltown became a popular spot for luxury condominium development that contributed to the rapid growth of the Seattle area and attracted an assortment of young professionals, middle-aged empty nesters and wealthy Seattleites. With the increased popularity, parking can be a challenge and walking is by far the best way to enjoy the shops and the views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains.
